How to jailbreak your iOS device on 5.1.1

Absinthe 2.0 has been released, bringing with it an untethered jailbreak for iOS devices running iOS 5.1.1. The jailbreak is compatible with almost every iOS device, with the lone exception being the revised $399 iPad 2 with 32nm A5 chip. A solution for the "new" iPad 2 will be released at a later date.

The jailbreak process using Absinthe 2.0 couldn't be easier. In fact, the developers of the jailbreak claim "it's so easy, your grandma could do it." If your device isn't currently jailbroken, then follow the instructions below:

1. To start, you'll need to head on over to the Greenpois0n Web site to download Absinthe 2.0 for your respective operating system.

2. With your device connected to your PC, open iTunes and right-click on the device you want to jailbreak. Select Back Up from the menu. Wait for the backup to finish and then close iTunes.

3. On your iOS device, go into Settings > General > Reset > Erase All Content and Settings.

4. Open Absinthe 2.0 on your PC, verify that the correct iOS device has been detected, and then click Jailbreak. The jailbreak process will only take a few minutes.

5. Once the jailbreak is complete, close Absinthe 2.0 and launch iTunes again. Right-click on your device name, but this time select "Restore from Backup." Select the backup you just made. Let your device restore and finish syncing before disconnecting.

Once the restore is complete, you'll have a jailbroken device, complete with all of your apps and information as it was before you began.

If you're having issues with the instructions above, give this Reddit link a try. It worked for me.

If you were using a tethered iOS 5.1.1 jailbreak, open Cydia and search for "Rocky Racoon 5.1.1 Untether" and install it.

Download spt v0.6.0 – Simple Phishing Toolkit

spt is a simple concept with powerful possibilities. It is what it’s name implies: a simple phishing toolkit.

Download spt v0.6.0

The basic idea we (the spt project) had was that wouldn’t it be cool if there were a simple, effective, easy to use and free (most importantly!) tool that information security professionals could use to evaluate and train what we all know is the weakest link in any security minded organization: the people.

Since the founders of the spt project are themselves information security professionals by day (and possibly either LOL cats or zombies by night), they themselves faced the frustration of dealing with people within their own organizations that claimed to know better, but 9 times out of 10 fell for the most absurdly obvious phishing emails ever seen. A malware outbreak here, a stolen password and loss of critical organizational data there and the costs of dealing with the results of phishing can get to be astronomical pretty darn quickly!

Enter spt. spt was made from scratch, like a baby (or maybe a zombie) with the goal of giving over-worked and under-staffed information security professionals a simple tool (more like a framework, as we hope to add more features over time) that could be used to identify and train those weakest links. spt is a fully self-contained phishing email toolkit that can be installed, configured and phishing in less than 15 minutes. Its design is modular and open-ended allowing for future expansion and additional features via easy to snap-in modules that are simply uploaded in the administration dashboard. Why not try out spt today and see who your weakest link is?

You can download spt here:

WinReducer: Customized Windows 8 Installation Disk

Windows 8 installs faster and uses less disk space than Windows 7 operating system . But if you want to build a custom installation of Windows 8 , it is necessary to take the help of third party tools.

Many Advanced users of Windows 8 are in search of quality software to customize and modify the installation of Windows 8 by removing some features and applications, they will be pleased to know about the availability of a free software called WinReducer 8 to customize the installation of Windows 8.

WinReducer 8 is a portable application, and its downloadable ZIP archive contains both 32-bit and 64-bit versions of the tool. After extracting the files, simply execute the appropriate version for your computer.

The application is currently in alpha, though everything it offers works as advertised. The main interface is minimal, and pffers ‘Open’ and ‘Change Mount Folder’ buttons. Note that if you are using an ISO file of Windows 8 setup, you’ll need to extract all the files from the ISO package into a separate folder before proceeding. You can use your favorite comressed files utility for the purpose; we recommend the free and excellent 7-zip.

Open to select the said directory, point to the disk drive with your Windows 8 installation disc or choose the folder where you extracted the ISO’s contents, select your Windows 8 edition and click Mount.

Sit back and let the application fetch all the information contained within the ISO or physical disc, after which it will let you customize the setup.

The tool will let you select any unwanted features that you want to exclude. Simply mark the the components that are not required such as Accessories, Drivers, Fonts, Languages, Themes, Services etc., under the Components Reducer tab.

The Customization tab helps you make further optimization and tweaking, for instance you can remove the Charms bar, hide desktop icons, remove files and settings from Windows Explorer, clean unneeded files and so on. Likewise, it allows you to select a default Lockscreen, Wallpaper, and custom theme.

The Unattended feature of the tool is a big time saver. It lets you specify your Windows 8 serial number, so you don’t have to enter it each time you performing the installation. In addition, you can select a custom background image for the setup program, provided the image dimensions don’t exceed 1024 x 786 pixels.

Once everything is in place, apply your changes and let the tool work its magic based on your selection.

Lastly, select ‘Save in WIM file and create a new ISO’. You may also change the destination folder, ISO name, and ISO label before hitting Save to create the ISO.

This test was carried out on windows 8, 64-bit edition

I PHONE NOT SYNCRONISE IN WINDOWS 7

For I Phone Users Specially,

Irritated iPhone users are beginning to report major difficulties in getting their iPhone to sync with Windows 7 systems. Particularly 64-bit Windows 7 systems, based around the P55 chipset. The iPhone is usually (though not always) recognised, but iTunes then complains that it can't connect to the unit because of an "unknown error", usually (though again, not always) 0xE8000065.
Disabling USB power management appears to be one solution. Click Start, type DEVMGMT.MSC and press [Enter] to launch Device Manager, then click View > Devices By Type. Expand the Universal Serial Bus controllers section of the tree, right-click each USB Root Hub entry in turn, select Properties > Power Management, and clear "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power".
Reboot your PC after this tweak and try again. This works for some, but if you're out of luck then check the Apple Discussions thread for other ideas.

Running Domain Controllers in Hyper-V

Hyper-V™ is a key feature in Windows Server® 2008 and Windows Server 2008 R2 that you can use to consolidate different server roles onto a single physical computer.windows-server-2008-hyper-v-logo-v_2
Hyper-V is a hypervisor-based server technology that is optimized to provide virtualization of operating systems. Hyper-V supports a large variety of guest operating systems that can run concurrently on a single physical server. This guide specifically describes running domain controllers that use Windows Server 2003 or Windows Server 2008 on Hyper-V as guest operating systems. Hyper-V takes advantage of and requires a 64-bit architecture on the server’s operating system to provide improved performance and security. The guest operating systems can have either 32-bit architectures or 64-bit architectures.
With Hyper-V, you can install a Windows Server domain controller as a virtual machine alongside other application servers on a single physical Windows Server 2008 server. This can drastically reduce the number of physical computers in a datacenter, which in turn can reduce management and energy costs.

Free ebook: Introducing Windows 8: An Overview for IT Professionals (Preview Edition)

The Windows 8 oIntroducingWin8_for_ITProsperating system is the newest member of the Microsoft Windows family. It differs from earlier Windows releases as much for what it does not change as for what it does change. That is, the features that IT pros loved about Windows 7 are still there in Windows 8—just better. The same keyboard shortcuts, management tools, security features, and deployment options are available in Windows 8. But in many cases, Windows 8 improves them in intuitive and significant ways. Some examples are the ribbon in File Explorer and faster disk encryption when using BitLocker Drive Encryption. This book describes these enhancements plus many of the new features in Windows 8.
Please enjoy this preview edition that contains Chapters 1-11. We will update this post with a link to the final ebook when it is ready.

Windows Server 2012: Install & Configure Windows Server 2012 using VHD Boot

Hi IT Professionals,
Often I receive lot of queries on evaluating Windows Server on their test environment or on some spare machines. Most of the times users want to carry a laptop to try/test evaluate Windows Server on their laptop. Well during our recent IT Camps, we delivered the same experience using Boot from VHD using Windows Server 2012. Attendees installed Windows Server 2012 on their sample machine and subsequently configured the demo machine to evaluate the features.
